El darrer ermità

The short documentary entitled ‘El darrer ermità’ (The last hermit), tells, in a slow and poetic Catalan, the story of the last hermit (Antoni de Sant Pau) who inhabited the hermitage of Bethlehem, Artà, on the island of Mallorca, Spain. He tells it in the first person and makes the last assessment before leaving that monastery in 2010, after 40 years of stay and having welcomed hermits since 1805. Among other things he says: “I have spent more than forty years in these Bethlehem sheds … these landscapes have constituted my spiritual father … ‘In the background you can hear the song of Psalm 50 “Have mercy on me” in Aramaic language and Georgian style, in two voices.
