The essay compares the proposals of modern Western cosmology with the traditional Christian doctrine of creation, from five approaches: physics and the beginning of time; physics, philosophy and theology regarding the primordial void; the fluctuating void and the origin of the universe; the mystery of vacuum energy; quantum tunneling in the vacuum and the primordial universe; and the unapproachable mystery of creation. He concludes that modern science has reached a situation in which, without excluding God from creation and the history of the world in a grounded way, it places the beginning of the universe in a quasi-apophatic state, impossible to specify from a scientific point of view.
