Towards an Implementation Strategy for the Human Integrated Management Approach Governance System: Theories, Concepts, Methodologies, Case Studies and Action Plans
Khalil Suleiman, Majda; Saleh, Walid; Hashemi, Mukhtar; Bhat, Narayana R. (eds.)2013
The publication features the proceedings of an international workshop organized by the Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research in 2013, devoted to the Human Integrated Management System (HIMA). The aim of the workshop was to understand HIMA in greater detail and reach to a consensus in selecting the best practices one can apply for the sustainable management of shared natural resources that suit arid or desert environmental conditions.
The HIMA ‘protected area’ concept was introduced over 15 centuries ago to involve local communities in the management of their natural resources. This allowed for diverse opinions on how best to manage and share natural resources, which in turn developed a consensus of best practices to be applied in sustainable management of shared resources. The publication includes 17 contributions of some of the leading experts in this field, some of which are actually involved with introducing and coordinating the application of the HIMA concept in their respective countries of the West Asia and North Africa Forum region.
