Plan Maestro 2007-2011: Refugio de Vida Silvestre Punta de Manabique, Guatemala
FUNDARY, CONAP & TNC2006
A Strategic plan approved by the National Protected Areas Council for the management and administration of the protected area of Punta de Manabique Wildlife Reserve (Guatemala) during the period 2007-2011.
The main aim of this plan is to create a tool for territorial planning and the management and development of this protected natural area. It contains general policies and directives, as well as general management, conservation, research and resource management programmes for implementation in this protected area.Based on a selection of natural and cultural, tangible and intangible elements of conservation priority, the plan analyses the value and viability of these conservation strategies within a context of the productive activities that are performed in the area. It then analyses the threats to these elements and the main opportunities they and the protected area’s productive activities offer in order to identify and prioritise the strategic aims to be implemented. Finally, the document establishes a monitoring plan aimed at evaluating the implementation of the objectives and the strategies that have been selected. The best indicators for calculating and evaluating the conservation of the cultural and natural heritage of the Punta de Manabique Wildlife Refuge are identified.
