Preliminary guide regarding diverse conceptualization of multiple values of nature and its benefits
Unai Pascual & Patricia Balvanera , coord. 2015
The guide examines the diverse conceptualization of nature’s multiple values in the world’s cultures, from the three main focuses of the IPBES conceptual framework: nature, benefits for people, and good quality of life. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the diversity and complexity of the types of values associated with nature, to conceptualize them, to propose methods for identifying them, and also to indicate what data and capacity-building needs currently exist within the objectives of IPBES, for the design and implementation of policy support tools based on these values. The main objective of the guide is to ensure consistency in the approach to biodiversity assessments and the functions and services of ecosystems carried out by IPBES, carried out in accordance with the conceptual framework used by IPBES.
