Das Ende der Neuzeit1950
The fundamental virtue will be, above all, the serious search for the truth (…) This seriousness wants to know what is behind the whole talk about the progress and mastery of nature, and assumes the responsibility that the new situation imposes on it. The second virtue will be courage. A courage without histrionics, personal and spiritual, that opposes the chaos that is unleashing (…) must resist the universal enemy, the chaos that grows within the very work of the human being, which has against it, like all true great courage, the majority of public opinion, the falsity which is concentrated in organizations and slogans.
