Rooting for the Future
African Earth Jurisprudence Collective2023
This short film (4 mins) tells the inspiring story of Appolinaire Oussou Lio’s work with communities to restore the sacred forest groves that once rooted people to place. Appolinaire was one of the first graduates from Gaia’s training for African Earth Jurisprudence practitioners, and his life’s path focusses on reviving traditional knowledge and practices in Benin, protecting the country’s sacred forests, and rekindling a deeper connection to Nature through youth groups.
This is the fourth animation in the ‘Decolonising Stories’ series from the African Earth Jurisprudence Collective. It is accompanied by an interactive story. It is also available in French.
