Guidelines aimed at governments and NGOs to enable them take into account in an appropriate fashion indigenous people’s traditional knowledge during land-use planning. The guidelines developed in the document are as follows: a) locate and identify indigenous peoples; b) respect their traditional rights; c) ensure the long-term protection of their lands; d) understand indigenous knowledge before using it; e) take into account indigenous communities and their knowledge from the start of the planning process; f) acquire indigenous knowledge based on trust, respect and fairness.
