Film about Jacint Verdaguer’s ascent to the Maleïda / Aneto on 1882
“Maleïda 1882, l’aventura de Jacint Verdaguer a l’Aneto“, the Catalan documentary film directed by Albert Naudín and produced by FilmeXplora with associated production of the Jacint Verdaguer Foundation and the participation of TV3, has been released in cinemas in Catalonia in July 2019. This beutiful film faithfully recreates the itinerary that followed the great priest-poet on his journey from La Seu d’Urgell and his ascent to La Maleïda (Aneto), in 1882, through Verdaguer’s verses and Bernat Gasull’s research texts, collected in the book Maleïda, published by Verdaguer Edicions, 2015.
Verdaguer was the first Catalan to climb the main peaks of the Eastern Pyrenees, from Canigó to Aneto, pushed by completely different aspirations from those of the English and French aristocrats of the moment: to get to know the cradle of Catalonia, its people, its myths and legends, and to personally experience its grandeur, to write his great poem “Canigó” (1886), which played a key role in the Catalan “Renaixença” and had a great influence on the development of Catalan hiking, open to culture and spirituality.
