Jai Jagat Campaing and Manifesto
Nwe Delhi, India2 October 2019
On October 2, 2019 (the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth) a 14,000 km, one-year global march for justice and peace, called Jai Jagat 2020, started from New Delhi to Geneva. Winding through 10 countries with nonviolence training and events on key justice themes along the way, and joining with separate marches starting from a number of countries in Europe and northwest Africa as well as delegates from around the world, participants will be welcomed and hosted by the City and Canton of Geneva for a week (26 September – 2nd October 2020) of workshops, advocacy meetings and cultural events.
This initiative urges the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a dialogue with UN agencies in Geneva. In the wake of the deepening economic, social and environmental crises, when the desire grows for profound change in our way of life everywhere, the Jai Jagat campaign “Long Live the Planet!” is working to achieve a caring world for all living beings with the following missions and values:
Missions: To promote Gandhi’s message of nonviolence, as a global transformation strategy and a way of living together; to promote the Jai Jagat marches as a tool of change makers working together to transform individuals, institutions and societies; to recognize the knowledge of women, young people and the poor and to ensure that they are empowered as the main actors of this campaign; to raise awareness on how local solutions contribute to global change, and to build on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) through the fulfilment of four central pillars: eradication of poverty, elimination of social discrimination, climate action, and nonviolent reduction of conflict.
Values: Act peace to attain peace; be the change you want to see in the world; practice sharing and caring; propose rather than oppose; pre-empt “us and them” relationships, and respect the ideal of openness, cooperation and inclusion of Jai Jagat in the service of the common good.
