Round table on the uses and conflicts of water
Barcelona, Catalonia5 November 2024
On November 5, Xavier Perarnau participated in the round table on uses and conflicts of water, representing the Silene association, to reflect on the current local and planetary water crisis. Specific cases and their root causes were discussed.
The other participants included Roser Bosch, biologist and coordinator of the “Art Descalç per la Terra” project; Didac Navarro from Ecologists in Action; Edurne Bagué, Aigua és vida and Aldo Cardoso who brought the Cochabamba Water Jar to life and pictures. The event was moderated by Neus Forcano from Justícia i Pau, on behalf of the organisation of the event.
Xavier Perarnau presented the perspective of integral, deep ecology, which is included in the 2024 Silene “Water is Life” manifesto, in contrast to the usual partial and materialistic approaches. He highlighted the intrinsic values of water as opposed to mostly utilitarian conceptions, as well as the need for all water management to be done from a holistic perspective.
