Spiritual Values of Protected Areas at the Conference on the World Parks Congress held in Galicia

Organized by the Spanish Committee of IUCN; the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, Europarc-Spain, CEIDA; the Spanish National Parks Autonomous Agency, and Xunta de Galicia, the 18 and 19 May a conference was held at the headquarters of CEIDA, in Castle of Santa Cruz de Oleiro, A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. It was dedicated to the ‘World Parks Congress: Parks, People and Planet: Inspiring solutions. The Promise of Sydney and challenges for Protected Areas of Spain’.
The programme discussed the Spanish contributions to the IUCN World Parks Congress in Sydney (2014), the Promise of Sidney, the knowledge products of IUCN, as well as the Green List of Protected Areas of IUCN. Of note, for the first time in Spain, it was addressed the theme of “Spiritual values of Protected Areas” by Josep-Maria Mallarach, Member of the Specialist Group on Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas of the IUCN World Commission on protected Areas, and coordinator of the Silene Association.
