Symposium on values in heritage management: emerging approaches and research directions
Los Angeles, California, USA6-7 February 2017
Organized by the Getty Conservation Institute in collaboration with Prof. Erica Avrami, Columbia University, and Prof. Randall Mason, University of Pennsylvania, the symposium will explore themes such as perceptions of heritage values within non-Western cultures, approaches to dealing with values at the intersections of tangible and intangible heritage and of natural and cultural heritage conservation, the evolution of values through time, ways that values are affected and might be restored with respect to intentional heritage destruction, values in the evolution and application of heritage norms, and current approaches to values assessment, including economic ones. Since 1998, the Getty Conservation Institute has sought to improve understanding of the role of values and economics in heritage conservation, and promote the development of related practical approaches.
