The European Project Spirit Youth at the holy mountain of Montserrat
Montserrat, CataloniaNovember 2016
Spirit Youth is a project that has been established by an international partnership to investigate spiritual tourism in Europe. The idea is to offer a transnational spiritual tourism product which will attract mainly but not only the youth tourism market. The proposal consists on an itinerary which crosses several European countries having the common theme of spiritually, understood in a global sense. The memory sites proposed in the itinerary include both, natural resources and landscape and cultural and heritage sites which fit into the spirituality concept already described (retirement, creative tourism activities, personal development courses…), with the specificity that this offer must be available during the medium and low season.
The project is run through a partnership of the following European organisations: Network of European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism Asbl (NECSTouR); Belgium – Universitat de Girona (UdG); Spain – Stichting VVV Zuid-Limburg; Netherlands – Comune di Prato; Italy – Eurocircle; France – LARSA; Spain & Equotube SC; Italy.
The 22 and 23 November Guies de Muntanya de Montserrat (Montserrat Mountain Guides) collaborated with an itinerary through the ermiatges of Tebes (upper part of the Holy mountain of Montserrat), with the company of the Benedictine monk Ramon. The 24 November they guided a pilgrimage from Montserrat to Manresa, following the Ruta Ignasiana, this time with the company of Conxita, a Bennedictine nun. Montserrat is considered by many as the spiritual heart of Catalonia.
