Regarding the International Day of Hapiness

Today, UN observance of the International Day of Happiness, we want to vindicate the happiness that lies in the everyday, simple and small. The one that is reached in a melody, in the contemplation of the sunrise, in a kind gesture, in a sip of water in a fountain. The happiness he has discovered as the seemingly vulgar and near is extraordinary, which avoids costly luxuries and whimsical excesses; the one that glimpses the same paradise when it hears a stream, glimpses a robin or sniffs the rudders; the happiness that, distrusting future and artificial well-being, sees the light thanks to the wise mastery of Mother Earth.

We claim the happiness that is born from within when we exercise the virtues, the one that originates in the internal order of the person and in the harmony with the Nature and its cycles; that which is based more on being than on having, more on values ​​than on things, more on our attitude than on circumstances; the humble happiness, which is hungry and thirsty for justice and works for concord, which is sober, fair, and loves the truth, that of the lilies of the field; happiness that is not sold or bought and, free from advertising hype, is more within the reach of clean hearts than full pockets.

We claim happiness for all, the one that flourishes when everything stays connected in the cosmos, the one that does not raise walls to be enjoyed individually, the one that cooperates and shares, the one that, compassionately, makes it rain on the just and the unjust. Happiness is not demanded as a right or a payment, nor is it sought as an obligation or a fallacy, but germinates as a grace when one stops looking at one’s navel and clinging to one’s desires, including the desires of happiness. We claim the enthusiastic happiness that does not give up and takes part in the fruitful and mysterious force of Life.
