Nature and spirituality

The author argues that the misuse of science and subsequent progress are the essential causes of the spread of the modern materialist mentality and two important factors in the current ecological crisis. This crisis is nothing but another manifestation of the current crisis of values that is characterized by a loss of our spiritual dimension.Throughout the world, traditional knowledge recognises the inherent spiritual values of the natural world that need to be deeply respected and venerated. In traditional cultures, humankind lives as a part of the natural world and is both its custodian and guardian.Silence, contemplation and solitude are essential conditions for perceiving the spiritual dimension of the natural world, without which it is very difficult to appreciate its sacred character and essence as a divine manifestation. If we are to coherently and efficiently integrate spiritual values into protected natural areas, one must promote changes that will increase the people’s inner receptivity.
