Plants of the Bible

This work covers both the Old and New Testaments and is divided into two parts. The first part is devoted to describing the Biblical landscape and environment, while the second part focuses on the plants and describes 128 species, of which 110 are explicitly mentioned in the Bible. Plants are classified in nine groups: tree plants, crops and gardens, wild grasses, forest trees and shrubs, riparian and wetland plants, other wild plants (including thickets and weeds), plants used in medicines, spices and perfumes. All the Biblical citations are included.

The author, Dr. Zohary, Professor of Botany at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, consulted sources in the original languages and spent his life studying the flora and vegetation of the Holy Land. Hence, thos book probably is the most serious and authoritative published work on the subject.
