Organización para la recuperación, conservación, dignificación y administración de los lugares sagrados mayas

This publication contains the results of several workshops and a national seminar whose aim was to discuss and validate the content of a proposal organized by Oxlajuj Ajpop regarding the recovery, conservation, management and dignity of Sacred Sites in Guatemala from the hitherto ignored Ajq’ijab’ (the traditional Mayan spiritual authorities) point of the view. It consists of six chapters: (1) an introduction which explains the key terms; (2) the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that discuss a number of organizational existing models; (3) an organizational proposal at various levels (community, municipal, by linguistic communities, regional and national); (4) an analysis of the available national and international legal instruments, followed by (5) another analysis of the basic conditions for the implementation of the model; and (6) a series of conclusions and recommendations, all complemented by a bibliography and appendices with the names of the participants in the workshops and seminar.
