The Contribution of Indigenous Peoples and Local Community Conserved Territories and Areas to the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-20 (Aichi Targets)
Kothari, Ashish; Neumann, Aurelie (coords.)2014
The Aichi Targets, within the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-20, outlines an ambitious roadmap towards halting and reversing biodiversity loss across the planet. The 20 Targets encompasses understandably go beyond ecological and biological aspects, essential as they are, to also focus on the social-cultural, economic, and political elements of achieving this roadmap. This document pretends to emphasise the role of Indigenous Community Conserved Areas (ICCA) in every target, exposing its relationship and providing many examples for each one. It is worth highlighting here that while ICCAs can help in the achievement of all Targets, there are targets in particular that cannot be achieved without ICCAs.
