Laudato si’. On care for our common home
Pope Francis 2015
This is the first encyclical that a Roman pontiff dedicates to the global ecological crisis. It analyzes in great breadth and depth the main drivers of the global ecological crisis: climate change, water, soil loss, biodiversity, deterioration of the quality of life and planetary inequalities. Examines the human root of the ecological crisis, in light of the Christian faith, which he attributes to the globalization of technocratic paradigm and the fact that technological growth has not been accompanied by a development of responsibility, values and human consciousness and demonstrating how social and environmental justice are two sides of the same reality.
Pope Francis considers that the response to the crisis requires a conversion to an integral ecology, which should include not only the environmental dimension but also the economic, social and cultural dimensions, always oriented to the common good, justice and peace. He places the hope of humanity in its ability to be converted and educated to engender a new look at our common home -the Earth- so to create a new spirituality, forger of joy and peace, able to manage natural resources wisely and justly.
