First Workshop of The Delos Initiative in the Holy Mountain of Montserrat: Spirituality and Protected Areas

The First Workshop of The Delos Initiative (IUCN – WCPA Task Force on Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas) will be held in the Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat, the spiritual centre of Catalonia, at about one hour from Barcelona, Spain, from 23 to 26 November 2006.
Several case studies from Finland, Greece, Italy, Japan, Russian Federation, Spain, United Kingdom, and USA that have been prepared in the Pilot Plan of The Delos Initiative will be presented and discussed, with the aim of developing a joint approach to sacred natural sites in technologically developed countries, seeking synergy between spiritual concerns and nature conservation. It will be a working meeting for the further development of The Delos Initiative. Sponsors of the workshop include the Ministry of the Environment and Housing of the Government of Catalonia, the Board of the Natural Park of the Mountain of Montserrat, the Monastery of Montserrat, and Caixa de Catalunya Savings Bank Fundació Territori i Paisatge.
