Island of Vilm, GermanyDecember 2012
In December, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation published a paper and digital volume Spiritual Values of Protected Areas of Europe, edited by Josep-Maria Mallarach of the Silene Association. This 170-page book provides a comprehensive compilation of the results of the international workshop on this topic held on 2–6 November 2011 at the International Academy for Nature Conservation on the Isle of Vilm, Germany. Participants from 12 European countries presented a number of selected case studies that were representative of the diversity of spiritual values within protected areas. In addition, principles and guidelines were drawn up as to how best incorporate spiritual values into protected area planning and management.
Silene Association, The Delos Initiative and IUCN collaborated in the publication.
