New International Pilgrimage connecting Marian shrines in Central Europe
Central Europe 2018
The objective of the new Via Mariae is to consolidate a unified pilgrimage path between the different religious traditions of Central Europe, among some of the main Marian sanctuaries, which establish connections in the east-west between Mariazell, Budapest, Máriapócs and Csíksomlyó, and in the north-south direction between the sanctuaries of Czestochowa, Esztergom and Medjugorje.
On the map, the shape of the way is a great cross in Central Europe that connects Austria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia and Bosnia, through a network of traditional and international pilgrimage paths, going through natural areas of diferent levels of protection, similar to the Way of Saint James (Camino de Santiago).
The Via de Maria invites everyone, regardless of their nationality or religion, who wishes to take the pilgrimage for spiritual, religious or even personal awareness, and simply those who want to go on vacation, or do it for pleasure or for sporting purposes.
The Marian Way will be a bridge between religions and people connecting East and West, North and South and wants to become the Reconciliation Way of Central and Eastern Europe.
