Inventory of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Montseny Natural Park and Reserve of Biosphere
Centre UNESCO de Catalunya2010
The immaterial cultural heritage of Montseny is the result of a pioneering project developed in the Montseny Biosphere Reserve and Natural Park, by the UNESCO Center of Catalonia in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation in 2010. The inventory was based on the concept of intagible cultural heritage defined by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention adopted in 2003.
The inventory was prepared from field work carried out for one year by a team of three people (an anthropologist, an historian and an environmentalist) who visited the natural park, talking with more than a hundred people and participating in many of the activities carried out there. By 2013, the methodology and the results obtained in this Inventory were recognized as a ‘best practice’ by UNESCO.
On this website you can discover the oral traditions, festivals, crafts, customs and all the rest of the intangible cultural heritage that has been identified so far in Montseny. And you can also directly participate in this inventory, since it will be updated periodically. It is worth highlighting the importance that this inventory had to promote the involvement of the local population and build new alliances for the conservation of this protected matural space. In addition, you will find a methodology for the realization of inventories of the intangible cultural heritage in biosphere reserves, a document on its contribution to sustainable development and many more resources related to the intangible cultural heritage and the biosphere reserves.
