Eco-Theology

This volume aims to provide theological responses to the ecological problems that have arisen in previous years, since the Earth Summit in 1992. It brings together contributions from fourteen prominent authors, who approach the subject from very different perspectives, within the spectrum of the Christian churches.  Eco-Theology” shows how theologians from around the world engage with the question of how to respond to the global ecological crisis and the natural and human-made disasters resulting from it. Topics include: ‘Earth as Gaia – An Ethical and Spiritual Challenge’ (Leonardo Boff), ‘Ashes and Dust: On (not) Speaking about God Ecologically’ (Anne Elvey), ‘Toward and Inter-religious Eco-theology’ (Felix Wilfred), ‘Learning from the Earth: Reflections on Theological Education and the Ecological Crisis’ (John Clammer), and ‘Ethical Management of Natural Resources’ (Jayapaul Azariah). Finally, some auhtors point out that ecoteology cannot be limited to specialized theological circles, but must find expression in the praxis of the ekklesia, so that communities can commit themselves in new ways and thus create together a better future for the Earth and for the human family.
